Implant Dentistry

Dental implants are changing the way people live and are one of the most important advances in dentistry today. Implant dentistry offers a patient with one or more missing teeth, an excellent alternative to dentures. Dental implants provide the comfort, appearance and function of natural teeth, making every day practices like eating and smiling easy again.

Preparation, Surgery, and Placement - a dental implant is placed over a series of appointments. First, Dr. Smith prepares the implant site, then places a titanium cylinder in the jaw bone. This tiny titanium cylinder acts as the root of the implant. Over a period of a few months, the bone bonds to the cylinder creating a secure site for prosthetic tooth placement. Once the titanium cylinder has bonded to the jaw bone, Dr. Smith uncovers the cylinder and places a beautiful, tooth-colored crown on top or it. Providing the patient with optimal function and restoring the appearance of his or her smile.

Implant Site Development - before placing a dental implant, Dr. Smith examines the implant placement site. If a tooth, or teeth have been missing for an extended period of time, bone generation treatment may be requires to ensure optimal implant support and function.
Sinus Augmentation - implant placement toward the upper back jaw sometimes requires sinus augmentation to make room for bone generation.
